How the Future Looks for Türkiye’s HVAC Sector’s Exports

Türkiye is a constantly evolving player in global exports for HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning systems). Heating product exports have the highest share of nearly 4% of the global exports market. HVAC is the country’s 11th largest production sector. Exports in 2022 reached $6.7 Billion, an 8% increase from 2021 with the largest exports’ destinations being Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy, Russia, and France.

The Exports/Imports ratio for HVAC products in Türkiye was 93.5% in 2022. It is expected that 2023 will see the first flip in this ratio where HVAC exports will for the first time exceed imports. Imported HVAC products are finding less space in the Turkish market due to the increase of domestic producers. Türkiye’s "Air Conditioning Industry Exports’ Association’ stated that the sector targets $25 billion in annual exports by 2033.

Split and multi-split domestic and commercial air conditioning products are becoming increasingly popular with over half a million units exported in 2022, over 100% more than 2021.

Turkish manufacturers are heavily investing in progressing VRF (Variable Refrigerant Flow) air conditioning systems. This is mainly fueled by the rising energy costs due to economic and geopolitical factors, and the domestic market demand. Türkiye is Europe’s largest market for VRF. This development boosts VRF exports which have seen a 13% increase from 2022. Türkiye aims to become a regional distribution base for VRF systems.

Where is the Opportunity for Importers?

The Turkish air conditioning industry is steadily progressing in an enthusiastic manner. Besides European countries, market shares for HVAC Turkish products are set to increase in Central Asian, Balkan, African, and South American countries in the short term.

Turkish manufacturers are putting traction behind this global spread by actively participating in international fairs and dispatching foreign trade and education delegations to help importers learn more about this fast-developing sector in Türkiye. Turkish manufacturers are also offering international sponsorships to enhance their brand exposure. HVAC Research and Development divisions are receiving significant investment to advance both HVAC product and service visions.

As an importer involved in the HVAC industry, there’s a large opportunity for you to benefit from the advancements described above. Turkish HVAC products are seeing enhanced performance while maintaining competitive cost advantage over other long established brands. Turkish HVAC producers are going above and beyond to offer their international customers favorable warranty conditions and high service levels. These are all drivers that help you introduce Turkish HVAC systems into new markets.
