Türkiye's global mobility brand, Togg, in partnership with Farasis and Siro Silk Road Clean Energy Storage Technologies, is making strides to develop energy storage solutions. Industry and Technology Minister Mustafa Varank and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan addressed the participants at the Campus Construction Start Ceremony in the Gemlik district of Bursa.
At the ceremony, Minister Varank emphasized Türkiye's commitment to becoming a dominant force in the automotive and energy storage industries. "Our President has personally signed, instructed, and followed up on the realization of Türkiye's automobile and Siro investment. We will build the Turkish Century together," he said.
The President of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Türkiye (TOBB), Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu, also spoke at the event, saying that Siro is the second biggest investment in the technology journey after Togg. "We will seize a very important opportunity that we can call the 'oil of tomorrow.' The oil of tomorrow is battery technologies. All countries are in competition with each other in this regard," he added.
With the establishment of the Siro Battery Development and Production Campus, Türkiye will have the capability to develop and produce cells, which is available in only a few countries. The campus, which will be completed by the end of 2024, will produce the latest generation, high energy density battery cells, modules, and packages. The production capacity of Siro is projected to reach 20 GWh per year by 2031, positioning Türkiye as a major integrated energy storage center in Europe and the Middle East.
This new investment not only puts Türkiye on the map as a leader in the energy storage sector, but it also provides a significant income in terms of employment for Türkiye and Bursa. The foundations of Türkiye‘s first battery factory have been laid, and with this investment, the key to value-added production and value-added development is now within reach.
