It's always heartwarming to see communities come together during times of crisis, and that's exactly what the Turkish shoe manufacturing industry did for the province of Hatay in Southern Türkiye showing the world the power of solidarity and support during times of crisis. When the earthquakes hit Kahramanmaraş earlier this year, the Turkish Shoe Manufacturers Association (TASD) launched a campaign to help the devastated province of Hatay. TASD donated a staggering five million Turkish lira worth of cutting, stitching, upper and lower section, and finishing machinery to the province, demonstrating their commitment to helping their fellow citizens in need.
Thanks to this donation, approximately 100 enterprises have temporarily relocated to the Reyhanlı Industrial Estate and can begin production again, albeit on a limited basis. TASD President Berke İçten, who is currently in Hatay, is proud of the shoe industry's quick and dynamic response to the crisis. The donated machinery will not only help those affected by the earthquakes but will also showcase the quality and expertise of Turkish shoe machinery manufacturing.
İçten also discussed future plans for the shoe industry in Hatay, including a temporary space in the Reyhanlı Industrial Estate and hopes for a permanent production center. He suggested combining small businesses while the industry is being rebuilt and implementing the cooperative system called the "Portuguese Model," which would reduce costs and allow for economies of scale.
The Turkish shoe machinery manufacturing industry is a prominent sector in the country and is well-known for its high-quality craftsmanship, innovative design, and competitive prices. With Türkiye’s location at the crossroads of Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, it's an ideal hub for international trade. Turkish shoe manufacturers export their products worldwide, and the industry continues to grow.
This donation by TASD and ISID to the province of Hatay is a testament to the Turkish shoe industry's expertise, innovation, and community spirit. It's a reminder that during times of crisis, we can come together to support one another and make a difference. As the world navigates through these challenging times, we can learn from Türkiye’s example of solidarity and support and continue to come together to help those in need.
